Annual meetings of the
Gilbert Lake Association

The Annual Gilbert Lake Association Membership Meeting was held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Brainerd VFW. Twenty Eight were in attendance. The meeting started with a presentation by Mark Persons about the Gilbertlake.org website. It is mobile friendly and there have been a number of updates including aerial views last fall.

Rainfall totals remain average, but the lake level has gone down to where it was 22 years ago. This five foot or more up and down is a normal cycle and there is no known explanation. Residents are warned to heed the buoys near the Public Landing and Cover Point as there is little clearance in spots. Some have already reported propeller damage.

Water testing this summer will be done by Paul Jacobsen, Ashli Maestre, and Mark Hegstrom. No bogs spotted so far.

The annual Boat Parade will be on Friday, July 4th starting at 10 am. The annual Triathlon will be on Sunday, July 6th starting at 9 am. Association officers stay the same this year.
Please send or bring in your completed annual membership application with a check for $50 dues.
Gilbert Lake Association Annual Meeting, Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Brainerd VFW:
Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by Colin Ryan, Gilbert Lake Association President. Mark Persons gave an update on the Gilbert Lake website highlighting all of the information available including water testing, lake events, and membership. He also has beautiful seasonal pictures of the lake and residents. Check it out at
https://www.gilbertlake.org/ Thank you Mark, for doing such a good job creating and maintaining this site. We all really appreciate it!

Treasurer Karen Koltes Hietpas collected $50 annual dues. If you haven’t paid this
year’s dues, please send checks to her at:

Colin Ryan reported that Jared Bartel has installed all the buoys for the season. Please be careful by the channel near the landing and by Cove Point because the lake level is down so low many have already reported prop damage.

Water testing this summer will be done by Paul Jacobsen, Ashli Maestre, and Mark Hegstrom.

Fourth of July Boat Parade is scheduled for Friday, July 4 th at 10:00am. Gilbert Lake Triathlon will be Sunday, July 6th at 9:00am. Check the Gilbert Lake Facebook page and website for updated information on both
events.

Andy Rangan made a motion to accept the current slate of officers for another year. President: Colin Ryan, V.P: Todd Froemming, Treasurer: Karen Koltes Hietpas, Secretary: Sally Jacobsen. Laine Larson seconded. Motion passed.
Introductions were made by all 28 people in attendance. Meeting adjourned at 7:35pm
Respectfully submitted,

Sally Jacobsen, Gilbert Lake Secretary

Wednesday, May 8, 2024: The Gilbert Lake Association Annual Membership Meeting was held at the Brainerd VFW. There were 36 Gilbert Lakers in attendance.

Jayden Jech, a loon specialist with the DNR, spoke about the Restoration of Common Loons in Minnesota project. High-speed boat traffic can damage nests and reduce loon population. Also, loons use pebbles in their stomachs to help digest food. If one of those pebbles is a lead fishing sinker, it will cause lead poisoning and the loon will die. There ae several man-made loon nests on Gilbert Lake. now.

Gilbert Lake Association President Colin Ryan led the meeting. One of the issues discussed was wave action from high-speed boats causing shore erosion. It was pointed out that we share the lake and we should be courteous to others. Parents should instruct their children accordingly.

May 16, 2023:  The Gilbert Lake Association annual meeting was well attended at the Brainerd VFW.  Annual association membership dues were paid. The meeting was run by Association President Colin Ryan.

The water level is 1175.5 feet above mean sea level. This is the same as 2014 and is 2.8 feet below average. The recorded high was 179.8 feet in 2020. More on the Facts page, when the DNR makes the statistics available.

Volunteers will be needed to help move a bog at Gilbert Three on or about May 30th.
