April 19, 2025: Loons have returned and two were spotted on Gilbert one.

April 11, 2025: If 90% is the criteria for an ice-free lake, then it appears we are there. About 10% of Gilbert Two (the big lake) has ice on its east shore where it is shadowed by trees. For perspective, the earliest recorded ice out was on March 27, 2016. The latest was April 29, 2023.

The public landing dock is not installed yet, but will likely be in before long.

March 31, 2025: Lake ice was mostly gone from the south side of Gilbert One. Also ice was receding from the shoreline on the east and west sides.
There was a fair amount of open water.
When will the ice go out completely??

February 14, 2025: It was twelve-degree weather when Mark and Paula Persons headed out on the lake in the afternoon. "Woodswoman" Paula was dressed for the weather. She is just fine with snow and cold.
February 9, 2025: Temperature in the mid-teens and low wind.
There are two paths on some areas of the lake. One for walking and one for skiing.

Skiing is popular on the lake.
We don't see many bikes on the lake.

January 27, 2025: This day found Jean Schaeffer and Paula Persons walking the lake for winter exercise. Fish houses ahead.
A Department of Natural Resources officer was out checking for licenses etc. One of the fishermen was Leon Yonick of Brainerd, who caught a nice Northern.
